Week of May 23 - 27, 2022

This week, First Grade wrote letters to the friends we have made at Little Flower Manor this year.  The students thanked them for the "All About Me" posters the residents created for the class.  The students also let the residents know how special they feel their correspondence has been with the Little Flower Manor residents this year.  The students even told the residents all about the incoming First Graders next year!

First Grade really enjoyed getting to watch the intramural volleyball games.  But they had the most fun watching the 8th graders match up against the teachers.  Everyone had a great time and really showed their school spirit.  Unfortunately, this year the teachers lost.

Week of May 16 - 20, 2022

First Grade has been enjoying our last full month with each other.  The students have accomplished so much since September.  They have also grown so close to one another.  They are like a big family.  Just like a family, they may have days that aren't so sunny, but they always work things out.  It is so wonderful to see how they are always looking out for one another and are always there to lend a helping hand. It warms your heart to see how much the first graders really care about each other.  They are a fantastic group of students!

Week of May 9 - 13, 2022

In math, First Grade has been learning about graphing and tallying.  The class has been working on a fun project to help further extend their learning.  The students had the choice to create a pizza or a cupcake.  They chose which toppings they would like to use and how many of each would be added.  After their pizzas or cupcakes were finished, the students had to complete a graph based on their creation.

Our service partner this year has been Little Flower Manor.  The class has made various cards, Christmas door hangers, and St. Patrick's Day bingo for the residents.  The class also created "All About Me" posters for the residents to help them get to know the students a little better since we haven't been able to visit them in person this year.  The class was very surprised to receive a package in the mail from Little Flower Manor which was for them!  Inside, were "All About Me" posters some of the residents created about themselves for the students.  We have been enjoying reading them all, little by little.

The students have been excited to learn how the residents of Little Flower Manor have similar likes and hobbies.  It has helped us get to know them better, but it also has helped them discover, how even though they might not be close in ages, they really aren't that different from each other.  One of the class' favorite discoveries is how many of the residents' favorite shows is "Golden Girls"! ☺

 Week of May 2 - 6, 2022

Last week, First Grade began learning about different types of clouds.  Throughout the year, we have been discussing stratus clouds and what they look like.  Now, we are discussing what cumulus and cirrus clouds are and what they look like.

The students made cloud diagrams using cotton balls to show what each type of cloud looks like.  Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate last week for the class to be able to get outside and investigate the real clouds!  Hopefully next week!

This week, we had some visitors from the Delaware County Victim Assistance Center talk to the students about body boundaries.  The students learned songs and chants, watched a puppet show, worked on problem solving, and completed some art projects. We were very thankful to have this opportunity.

First Grade would also like to wish all of our mothers a very happy Mother's Day on Sunday!  We hope all of the special women in our lives have a special day and wonderful weekend!
