 Week of December 13 - 17, 2021

We have had a busy last few days in First Grade before our Christmas break!  Last week, the students got to learn about different Nativity sets from around the world.  There was even a Nativity themed scavenger hunt!  The students partnered with a fourth grader to complete the scavenger hunt.

This week, the class made their ornaments, which will be for something special!  The students each decided what materials they wanted to use to create their unique ornament.  All of the ornaments turned out very nicely!

First Grade made cards and Christmas door hangers for our service partner, Little Flower Manor.  The cards and door hangers will be given to LFM residents to help brighten their days.  The class did a fantastic job on these, too!

Our last day before break was filled with lots of fun and holiday spirit!  Two of the day's highlights were the school sing-a-long and story time with Mrs. Fox-Tully.  It was a great way to end our week and get ready for our break!  Have a wonderful Christmas and a very healthy and happy new year!

 Week of December 6 - 10, 2021

First Grade has been very busy this week!  There has been a lot happening all around the school.  It is hard to believe we only have a few more days of school left before Christmas break!

On Monday, HCA received a visit from St. Nicholas.  The students left their shoes under their lockers in hopes that St. Nicholas would leave a treat inside the shoes.  Everyone was very excited to discover St. Nicholas left a candy cane and a sticker for each of them.

On Tuesday, First and Second Grade had Dress Up Day, as they recorded their part of the Christmas show.  Everyone looked so nice!  They were very thrilled to show off all of their fancy outfits!  The students were wonderful performers, as they sang the various songs to be added as a video spotlight during the Christmas show.  Their singing will be a fantastic addition!

Over the past two weeks, First Grade has been learning about different types of energy.  We have been learning a lot about potential and kinetic energy, as well.  To help demonstrate potential and kinetic energy, the students each built a catapult using popsicle sticks and rubber bands.  Once they were all complete, the class experimented to see how high and far they could make their pom poms fly by manipulating their sticks into different positions.  Some of the pom poms even touched the ceiling!

Please send in items for ornaments by Monday, December 13th.

Next week, Tuesday (Day 3) and Thursday (Day 5) are P.E. days.

Week of November 29 - December 3, 2021

Before we left for Thanksgiving break, First Grade wanted to help some turkeys hide and not end up as Thanksgiving dinner!  So the students each gave a turkey a costume.  The class enjoyed seeing the different ways each of their classmates disguised their turkeys.  Our turkeys stayed well hidden and didn't end up on anyone's table last week!  The students did a great job!

During our last day of school before Thanksgiving, First Grade got to design ornaments that are being used to decorate the Christmas trees throughout the school.  The students put a lot of care and effort into creating their individual ornament.

At the Thanksgiving Prayer Service, First Grade performed "Our Father" in front of the school.  They worked very hard with Ms. Brown to learn all of the various signs.  Everyone was very impressed with what a wonderful job they did.  The class received so many compliments from various people around the school.  The students were very proud of themselves, as they should have been!
